Summer is my favourite time, and the weather in Ontario over the last few weeks has been hot. But I love it! We have been away camping again, so I got in some solid reading time and have 4 new books to share with you.
The Last Bookshop in London
By: Madeline Martin
A young woman, Grace Barrett, who has lost her family, moves to London. She dreams of new and exciting opportunities even though War is imminent. She begins working in a second-hand bookstore. The owner is a crotchety older gentleman who doesn't really seem to want her working there but takes her on as a favour to Grace's landlady. Grace soon discovers the many interesting and quirky characters who are regular visitors to the store. Grace has never been much of a reader but soon discovers that books have the power to change and heal. During a time when all the world seems dark, books become Grace's beacon of light.
This was a wonderful story and a great affirmation for book lovers everywhere. Thanks, Anne P., for this recommendation! I loved it!

The Road Trip
By: Beth O'Leary
Dylan and Addie fell in love one summer. It all seemed so right until things went wrong. Two years later, they are thrown together in a car travelling to a friend's summer wedding. As things along the way go awry, Dylan and Addie gain time to discover each other all over again.
I have read a few of Beth O'Leary's books and have enjoyed them. They are a light, fun summer read.

The Secret Keeper of Jaipur ( Book 2 of the Trilogy)
By: Alka Joshi
I found this book just as captivating as her first book! This story picks up where the Henna Artist left off. Lakshmi is working in Shimla in the foothills of the Himalayas and is now married to Dr. Jay Kumar. Malik is still helping Lakshmi, and he has met and fallen in love with a young widow named Nimmi. Nimmi is helping Lakshmi create her healing garden. Lakshmi sends Malik to Jaipur to apprentice as a builder. Malik soon becomes entangled again with the very privileged Singh family. When things go wrong at one of the building projects, Malik suspects that there might have been something more sinister at play.
This book will have you cheering for the underdog and wanting justice for those who deserve it.
The story is heartwarming, and the setting is exotic. The book will keep you entertained and wanting more!
(This is a trilogy- Who knew? I'm so excited for the final book!)

The Orphanage
By: Lizzie Page
A young woman, Clara Newton, has recently lost her fiancee during World War II. She moves to a small town to start work as a Housemother at the Shilling Grange Orphanage. She quickly becomes overwhelmed and feels she is over her head. Clara slowly begins to connect with the children and starts to make a difference in their lives. She witnesses positive changes in the children. With the help of her handsome neighbour, a former Shilling Grange Orphan, she begins to find her way.
This story started slowly, but I quickly became captivated by the characters and story and couldn't stop thinking about this book. It was left on a cliffhanger, and I can't wait to read the next book! I plan on reading some of Lizzie Pages' other books as I enjoyed this so much!
